In November, I went on my last walk of 2024, along with Steve and Mark, destination Whernside. We parked up on the road by Ribblehead Viaduct and followed the path along to the right of this amazing structure; seeing it up close is quite impressive and well worth a look.
But we had hills on our mind, so continued on, crossing the
Settle to Carlisle railway and the viewing the tunnel, more impressive
engineering. Then we turned up the hill and to the summit of Whernside,
Yorkshire’s highest hill. A pleasant summit with a large shelter, but as we
started to leave snow came in. We took a very steep path down (my legs ached for
days after) and then passed the viaduct once more before the walk’s end… and
the obligatory pint in the Station Inn.
