Welcome...

There are several blogs on the internet detailing other people’s walks up hills and mountains in the UK, there are many fine pages showing routes up various fells, many of which will be better than this blog. So, why bother reading my blog? No reason at all, so I guess you might as well move on…

You still here? Cool...let's see...

August Hill: Great Hill

The August hill walk was a wander up Great Hill, just down t’road from me and near Chorley. This time, it was Steve, me, Jake and Roco.
Great Hill isn’t a name that stirs the imagination, but it is exactly what it proclaims to be: a great hill. It’s not huge, it doesn’t have any taxing scrambles or anything, but it is fine hill.
We started our walk from White Coppice, passing the cricket ground (I can’t think of any walk where I have passed a cricket ground before and I was knocked for six), then at the gate at the end of the ground, we headed straight on, following a stream and wading through waist high bracken, until we crossed fields to the main path that led us upwards.
The top was clear and were rewarded by fine views all around: of Winter Hill, Darwen Tower and Rivington Pike.
This is a short walk, one you could do after lunch or in the evening if so desired. After a few bites to eat, we headed back down, following the main path all the way back to the cricket ground.
