Welcome...

There are several blogs on the internet detailing other people’s walks up hills and mountains in the UK, there are many fine pages showing routes up various fells, many of which will be better than this blog. So, why bother reading my blog? No reason at all, so I guess you might as well move on…

You still here? Cool...let's see...

September Walk 1 The Cairnwell Round

In September we went to Braemar in Scotland for three nights and stayed at a fine pod there. We went on two walks and the first of these was The Cairnwell Round, with three Munros in the bag.

We started the walk at Glenshee Ski Centre. The full crew went on this one: Andy, Steve, Mark and I. We began the walk by following the ski lift to the summit of The Cairnwell. Two main things I have to say about this one: it is probably the easiest Munro I have climbed, due to the fact that the ski centre is quite high above sea level to begin with; the second thing I have to say is that the actual cairn is the strangest I have seen as it seems to be an old hut with the stones built around it. It did give a bit of shelter though. But the whole mountain is kind of scared with ski lifts and such.

Andy and I then progressed to our second Munro of the day which was Carn a' Gheoidh. This was quite a fine walk along the ridge the taking a left up towards its peak. More of your traditional mountain this one, with no signs of ski paraphernalia. From here we retraced our steps somewhat, then made out way to the last Munro, Carn Aosda. We are back to ski lifts and such here with many worn tracks. After a quick stop for photos, we went back toward the ski centre and the car.

It is not very often you do three Munros in a day and so we felt a fine sense of achievement, so it was back to Braemar for a beer and fish and chips…
