Welcome...

There are several blogs on the internet detailing other people’s walks up hills and mountains in the UK, there are many fine pages showing routes up various fells, many of which will be better than this blog. So, why bother reading my blog? No reason at all, so I guess you might as well move on…

You still here? Cool...let's see...

April 2019: Ingleborough

The April walk was a romp up a windy Ingleborough, one of the three peaks in the Yorkshire Dales. I first climbed Ingleborough twenty or so years before and at the time did not appreciate just how fine a mountain it is, being more of a Lakeland fan at the time and obsessed with climbing all the Wainwrights.

It was Steve and I again, with the dogs Jake and Rocco. We started at Clapham and headed up, threading through Trow Gill; I must pause now to say how immense it is here, with shear rock walls at either side and tricky half-scramble at the top upon shiny, well-worn rock.

We then made our way to Gaping Gill, with Jake on his lead here, in case he decided to jump into this vast cavern (he is a crazy spaniel after all).
Ingleborough is in plain sight from here: well, Little Ingleborough is anyway. Beaten by strong winds, and I had forgotten my hat and just had my hoodie, the journey progressed up a straight forward footpath, then it is a left turn to the summit of Ingleborough, which boasts a trig, large cairn and well-built shelter. Good views all around of The Lakes, Pen-y-ghent and other wonderous hills.

Here's a vid Steve did
