Welcome...

There are several blogs on the internet detailing other people’s walks up hills and mountains in the UK, there are many fine pages showing routes up various fells, many of which will be better than this blog. So, why bother reading my blog? No reason at all, so I guess you might as well move on…

You still here? Cool...let's see...

July Hill Walk: Skiddaw

I had been trying to count how many times I had climbed Skiddaw and I think it must be in the region of eight times (and counting). Three of those times were over the last few years as it seems to have become a family hill as once a year my family and I meet in Keswick for a few nights of walking, eating and drinking (but not always in that order).

This walk features the largest amount of people so far in my blog posts this year. There were Jack, Andy, Kath, John-Paul, Emily, Evie and Jack (2 – Emily’s BF) and Sally the dawg. We started from Low Briary, where we were staying, walking along the disused train track, but one can just start at the old train station (no longer in use).
We headed up and along the road to the roundabout, turning left, we walked along here for a few minutes at Briar Rigg, then turned right at an obvious sign post. This path is also part of the Cumbria Way. We walked on, passing the side of Latrigg hill and then to the top of a road.

It’s a tough walk from here, up and along a zig-zagging path and then along to the summit. This year it was a bit misty at the top, but there was no rain. Once down, it was back down via the same route to Keswick for a pint of Cocker Hoop… or two…
