Welcome...

There are several blogs on the internet detailing other people’s walks up hills and mountains in the UK, there are many fine pages showing routes up various fells, many of which will be better than this blog. So, why bother reading my blog? No reason at all, so I guess you might as well move on…

You still here? Cool...let's see...

Hanging Stones and Beatrix Fell - February 2025

In February 2025, I took a wander up to Hanging Stones and back across Beatrix Fell. This is another hidden gem of Lancashire suggested by Steve. Joining me that day were Steve, Andy and James.

The walk began at Dunsop Bridge and we took a track by the side of Puddleduck Café. We followed this track until we came to moorland that led to the Hanging Stones, which is considered the most central part of Great Britain. It was quite wet and boggy, with an ice-cold wind that chilled you to the bones. The boots were letting in water as well, so my feet were like frozen blocks.

We took grassy slopes down, crossed the River Dunsop and headed back via Beatrix Fell, another wet one. A lovely wander rewarded with a good pint in the Inn at Whitewell, good ale, deep pockets required….
