In October I took a three-night trip to gorgeous Glencoe in Scotland with friends: two days of walking in the wind and rain, two Munros and two walks to report on. The first of these was a walk up Buachaille Etive Beag. It was me and my bro Andy, and the plan was to bag both summits, Stob Coire Raineach and Stob Dubh, but plans often go awry… We started the walk at the small car park opposite the Beehive Cairn. It is a straightforward
path that rises easily to the
bealach between both the summits. It had rained pretty much relentless so far
and there were no signs of it easing much. Plus, the wind was getting bad. We
headed right, deciding to go for Stob Dubh first, but as we passed the subsidiary
summit, we were almost blown over by the wind. Noticing that the final push to
the top was on a ridge, after much deliberation we decided not to take
it and turned back. At the bealach we headed up Stob Coire Raineach. The wind
was insane and it seemed as though the hill was doing its best to keep us off
that day. But we got there, determined to get a hill bagged, digging in our
walking sticks to keep from being blown off. No time for photos, we headed
quickly back down in the rain. Sodden, we made our way to a nearby pub for a beer
before returning to our accommodation to dry off.
