Welcome...

There are several blogs on the internet detailing other people’s walks up hills and mountains in the UK, there are many fine pages showing routes up various fells, many of which will be better than this blog. So, why bother reading my blog? No reason at all, so I guess you might as well move on…

You still here? Cool...let's see...

September Hill 2019: Pen-y-ghent -

The September walk was a hike up Pen-y-ghent, one of Yorkshire’s ‘three peaks.’

There was quite a few this time around: Steve, Mark, my old pal Andrew, Kip and Jake (the dog) and Roco (the dog), along with a friend of Steve’s, James, and his friends (and dogs) who were walking the hill for arthritis charity.
The forecast had been drizzle, but we had a fine day with only the occasional brushing of rain. We started from Horton in Ribblesdale, parking up on the main road.

By the church, we started up a lane that soon became a path, that turned off for the hillside. Pen-y-ghent was in view most of the way, sitting grand. There was a brief, slight scramble to the summit with views all around.

We headed back along the obvious path, stopping off at Hull Pot the largest natural hole in England, careful not to fall in. Worth a trip. Then it was back to the main path, into Horton and for a pint…
