Welcome...

There are several blogs on the internet detailing other people’s walks up hills and mountains in the UK, there are many fine pages showing routes up various fells, many of which will be better than this blog. So, why bother reading my blog? No reason at all, so I guess you might as well move on…

You still here? Cool...let's see...

September Walk 2 An Socach

In September we went to Braemar in Scotland for three nights and stayed at a fine pod there. We went on two walks and the second of these was An Socach (near Braemar: there are three by the same name in Scotland of Munro height).

It was Andy and I today. We started the walk on the A93 near to Baddock Farm, near a small wooden area. It was a pretty straightforward hill wander. We followed a fine track for a good while.

This is nice valley (glen) walk with hills at either side and good to get a pace set in. After the second or third ford, when turned right up a faint path and followed the ridge, sometimes boggy to the top.

Many ‘false summits’ on the way and it was good to finally get to the top. Fine views all around, most notably of the Cairnwell Round, which we had climbed the day before.

We made out way back via the same route and returned to Braemar for a well earned ale or two…
